The 2026 Auto&General Xtri hosted by Steyn City brought together nearly 900 athletes for one of South Africa’s premier cross-triathlon events, showcasing determination, resilience, and inspiring stories from both elite competitors and first-time participants.

Held on 21 February 2026 at Steyn City, the event forms part of the South African Cross Triathlon Championships, where athletes take on the demanding challenge of swimming, mountain biking, and trail running across scenic off-road terrain.

A Big Moment for Matsimela Ladies Clinics

Among the 900 participants were 30 women from Matsimela Ladies Clinics, the community cycling movement founded by Caroline Matsimela. For many of these women, this race marked a major milestone — their first-ever triathlon.

From early morning swims to challenging mountain-bike trails and the final run to the finish line, the MLC team demonstrated the power of community support, mentorship, and determination. What began as simple training sessions evolved into a collective achievement that celebrated courage, progress, and personal growth.

For several riders, even the 300m lagoon swim in the Super Sprint race represented a powerful personal breakthrough — proving that stepping outside your comfort zone can lead to incredible transformation.

More Than a Race

While elite athletes battled it out for national titles, the spirit of the day extended far beyond podium finishes. The event celebrated the journey of athletes at every level — from beginners discovering the sport to seasoned competitors chasing championship glory.

For Matsimela Ladies Clinics, participation in the Xtri represents something deeper: empowering African women through sport, building confidence, and continuing to #MakeTheCircleBigger.
