The journey to becoming a triathlete begins with a single step—or in our case, a single pedal stroke.
Matsimela Ladies Clinics was recently featured on Expresso Morning Show to talk about our exciting partnership with the WW Xtri by Woolworths and how our community is empowering more African women to step confidently into the world of triathlon.
During the interview, our founder, Caroline Matsimela, shared the inspiring story of how MLC was born in August 2020. What started with just two women learning to ride bicycles has grown into a thriving sisterhood of more than 200 women, all united by a shared purpose—to inspire more women to ride, grow, and #MakeTheCircleBigger.
Joining Caroline was Clutma, an MLC graduate and accomplished triathlete, whose story perfectly demonstrates what is possible when women are supported by a community that believes in them. Beginning as a runner before learning to swim and cycle, she discovered that every new skill unlocked another opportunity, eventually leading her to compete—and win—in triathlon events.
One of the most powerful messages from the interview was that you don’t have to be an athlete to begin. Many women join MLC believing they’re not fit enough, not strong enough, or that they don’t belong. Through mentorship, encouragement, and genuine sisterhood, those doubts are replaced with confidence, resilience, and a belief that anything is possible.
At Matsimela Ladies Clinics, we believe that sport transforms more than your body—it transforms your mindset, your family, your career, and your community. Every woman starts as a beginner, and every achievement starts with the courage to simply show up.
The interview also highlighted the inclusive nature of the WW Xtri by Woolworths. Whether you’re an experienced athlete, a first-time participant, or simply want to complete one discipline as part of a relay team, there’s a place for you. Most importantly, there’s a community ready to welcome you every step of the way.
As Caroline shared during the interview:
“Just start. Start where you are. Start with what you have. Just start.”
Those simple words capture everything Matsimela Ladies Clinics stands for.
We’re incredibly grateful to the Expresso team and WW Xtri by Woolworths for providing a platform to share our story and inspire more women to discover the strength that comes from movement, community, and sisterhood.
